AMADEUS 2013 'BEST ENGINEERED ALBUM'

This year, on May 6th 2013 for the very first time an AMADEUS (Austrian Music Award) was awarded in the category 'Best Engineered Album'. We are very proud to having contributed our mixing and mastering skills to this years winner, 'Soweit Sonar' by Julian Le Play. We belive this to be a very special honor since this price is beeing decided within the recording industy - working engineers and studio owners giving their vote to the best engineered effort of the previous year, 2012 in this case:

MASTERED FOR iTUNES (MFiT)

For more than one year now Apple has been offering artists and labels the opportunity to upload hi-res files (to be encoded) for sale on the iTunes store. For quite some time prior to this Apple has been working together with leading mixing and mastering engineers on improving the process leading to the encoding, as well as the codec itself, to raise the sound quality of the files sold on iTunes.

It wouldn't be Apple if they didn't also use this effort in their marketing: With the official launch of MFiT Apple released a set of tools and accompanying documentation to be used by artists and engineers in order to help to improve the sound quality of the encoded files - the same tools used for actually encoding the files for the iTunes store. These tools can be used to create a Master that will survive the encoding to 256k iTunes+ AAC files with the least damage.

This may sound a little complicated - what it boils down to is that Mastering Engineers now have the tools to exactly predict the sound of the encoded file and therefore (most important) set the level so the decoded files on the consumer end don't distort - resulting in a cleaner, more pristine listening experience. Also tests have shown that codecs seem to perform much better when using 24bit files instead of 16bit as a source - that's why 24 bit files are stronly recommended by Apple for a MFiT submission.

CORNELIA MOOSWALDER - STAR ON THE HORIZON: ENTERING THE AUSTRIAN ALBUM CHARTS AT #1!!

It seems that after winning the casting show 'Helden von Morgen' and taking home 100.000,- EUR, nobody can stop Cornelia Mooswalder! Today her debut 'Star On The Horizon' entered the Austrian album charts at #1! Congratulations to Conny - and her producers 'Echopilot' who have hit #1 for the second time this year!

The album was mixed by Georg Tomandl and Mischa Janisch at Studio 2 and mastered by Mischa Janisch at Studio 1.

TRACKSHITTAZ - OIDAAH PUMPN MUAS'S HITS #1

Trackshittaz have been entering the Austria Top 40 abumcharts with their debut 'Oidaah Pumpn Muas's' as the new #1! Trackshittaz have been Austrias hottest selling new artist in the last 12 months. Congratualtions to everyone involved.

HURTS & FALCO: JEANNY

25 years ago Falco released his milestone recording 'Falco 3' including Hit Singles like 'Vienna Calling' and 'Rock Me Amadeus' - the first song in German language to reach #1 in the US. Jeanny, another Single from the album sold 2,5 Mio units in Germany only! Now, for the 25th aniversary edition of 'Falco 3' the chart topping British synthpop duo HURTS from Manchester contibute a Remix of Jeanny. In September Mischa Janisch mastered the Remix in Studio 1.

eMASTERING SERVICE NOW ONLINE!

It took us a lot longer than we wanted, but finally our Online Mastering Service is worth it's name: We have been 'Remote-mastereing' via FTP and YouSendIt for years, but  while up until today it was merely possible, demanding a lot of discussing and explaining of the 'how to', our swift new system works like a charm and makes our work a lot easier which is why we can offer the eMastering service at an even lower price piont than before!

Now you just need to create your account, enter the Project details, chose the Engineer and upload all your files. After payment you can have some Beer, Caipirinhas or whatever you like while we bring out the best in your music.

BYE BYE SSL 6056, HELLO SSL MATRIX

For the last 8 years our SSL 6056 E/G+ did a great job churning out numerous hits - but time has moved on... The demand of a speeded up and more flexible workflow,the necessity (?) to change things until (and after) the last deadline has come and ever shrinking budgets led us to the decission to take a new approach. After 15 successful years we closed the doors of our Studio in the Garbergasse (Studio 4 and 5), rebuild Studio 2 and move our gear there to build a perfect hybrid Mixing Suite - with an SSL Matrix and a couple of X-Racks as center pieces.

Besides regular 'Full' Mixes we are now able to offer 'Mix - Tuning' - fine tuning of Mixes that have been made in less than perfect Room Acoustics with little or no outboard gear and breath some life and Rock n Roll into your Music. Simmilar to 'Stem- ' or 'Seperation Mastering', but with mixering rather than mastering in mind (since we believe those two should not be mixed up), more 'Mix specific' gear but all in a 'Mastering Grade'  acoustic environment....

CHRISTINA STÜRMER 'IN DIESER STADT'

Digital is fun! Especially with extremely successful artists like Echo winning Christina Stürmer who tend to release so many slightly different versions of their Albums and Singles (CDs for each territory, Bonus Packs, CD+DVD versions, iTunes, iTunes Deluxe, Musicload, ...). Slightly different UPCs and slightly different tracklistings in many different versions - this type of fun! Recently Mischa Janisch did 8 DDPi's of her Album and 7 DDPi's of her Single - besides mastering the Audio... The Album hit #1 the first week after release, congratulations Christina.

SUNSHINE MASTERING INSTALLS MANLEY MASTERING BACKBONE SERIAL #001

It DID take some time - but we are very happy nevertheless... We first talked tu Hutch (the Designer) in 2004 at the AES in Berlin. In 2007 at the in Vienna he brought the first prototype, which we ordered the moment we saw it. It still took some time to the final delivery in August 2008 because everyone at Manley cares - they wouldn't let go the product unless it was perfect - which we have to admit it is - ERGONOMICS & Tech Specs (Noisefloor, Distortion, ...) definitely Rock, but most important of all - it simply sounds great!
